Summary
Painter (executive director, Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati) reviews the architectural history of Cincinnati, Ohio from the early Native American earthworks to the present time. She focuses on large institutional structures--banks, museums, churches, colleges, etc.--and pays little attention to small residential buildings. Her text, which is accompanied by numerous photographs and other illustrations, discusses the history of particular buildings, social and cultural issues that influenced architectural developments in Cincinnati, and the contributions of particular architects and architectural firms in a broadly chronological fashion.
